We shot blue confetti into the sky for freaking sake. We had a gender reveal party, with all of our friends and family. There are no other males in my house that could’ve skewed the test. He wasn’t even home when I took the test. I followed all the instructions to the T. The company said that they were 99.1% accurate with their tests. She must be wrong! She has to be wrong! It must’ve been the angle. After what felt like forever, she said “I can’t say with 100% confirmation…but I’m sorry to tell you, I think that your blood test was incorrect.” The entire time we were doing the anatomy scan I kept seeing her go over the area and then back. We said that we already had a blood test, we are having a baby boy, but a visual confirmation would be appreciated. The tech asked if we wanted to know the sex of the baby. So I’ll get to it! A few weeks ago we were doing a routine ultrasound. I am so lucky that I have been blessed with the ability to create another life. I will start by saying that I am so very grateful to be carrying a healthy baby. This is slightly controversial and I want you to hear me out… I’ve learned that there are many like me. I put my trust into a company that was supposedly reliable and only to learn that after doing some research- I’m not the first to have this happen to them. Unfortunately, I have been duped, deceived…I just feel like I’ve been lied to. I’ve emotionally had to process this whole thing for some time. One that I never thought I would be making. If you can afford it, wait till 10 weeks and do NIPT/Harmony as you can trust those results a lot more plus you get the health reports or go for a gendered blood test via a dr as the diy approach seems too error prone. So it’s time for me to make an announcement. It looks like in the US they have a new device that mitigates this risk in the collecting process but it’s not available in UK at this time. I think the UK test kits still have a huge and very easily triggered user error likelihood as the sensitivity for male DNA means even being super careful (I did it in my office where my husband and son don’t frequent, I wiped all surfaces, scrubbed hands for two minutes in warm soapy water, air dried etc) I still got a wrong result. ![]() I think the idea is very cool as I’m super impatient to know anything and everything but we got a boy result and like many others are having a girl which we are still super happy about but maybe we could have saved £79. You can definitely save the money for a private gender scan, but if you're as impatient as I am and are able to afford this then by all means go for it it's a fun little thing to do in early pregnancy. ![]() Do you *really* need to take this test? No. ![]() But the accuracy of the results kinda compensates I guess. I was a bit upset that the results took a few days longer than the estimate provided on the website. So just follow the instructions properly, and there shouldn't be any problems. many people have had blood dripping off their nails which i'd say it's a big no no to avoid any potential contamination). But I think it all boils down to how thoroughly you clean your surroundings before testing, and more importantly, how well are you able to collect the sample (e.g. It's a boy! I've read a lot that boy results might not be as accurate, so I really didn't put much hope in my results as I didn't wanna be disappointed after hearing many negative experiences. Was skeptical at first, but just confirmed my results with a gender scan.
